Coming to see Fiddler on the Roof this summer?

Discover the hidden Jewish history of the Barbican on this pre-theatre walking tour

Matchmaker, matchmaker... it's the perfect match

As the sold-out Regent's Park production of Fiddler on the Roof transfers to the Barbican, discover the medieval Anatevka – the area where London’s original Jewish community first settled – on a pre-theatre walking tour.

Led by a City of London green badge guide and local resident in partnership with The Jewish Square Mile, the tour reveals the hidden Jewish history of the Barbican. You'll see the site of the 1,000-year-old Jewish burial ground on the Barbican Estate, explore the nearby streets that made up the old Jewish quarter and find out about the people who lived here from 1068 until the Expulsion of 1290.

Starting from Barbican station, the walk finishes back at the Barbican Centre in plenty of time to have something to eat before the show.

This walk is in partnership with The Jewish Square Mile, a project to reveal and celebrate the history of the Jewish cemetery and the Jewish people who lived in medieval London.
